Bison Club Completes Another Milestone Year

LEWISBURG, PA – The books have closed on the fiscal year at Bucknell University, and the Bison Club once again achieved a record-setting number of annual donors on its way to raising more than $2.4 million in total annual support of the university's 27 varsity sports programs. The fundraising arm of Bucknell University Athletics, the Bison Club raised a new single-year mark of $2,224,290 from a record-number of 4,094 donors during the 2014-15 fiscal year, and the athletics programs received another $103,949 in match money as a result of gifts made during the Trustee Challenge last April, and another $93,646 as a result of team specific fund raising activities during the past year. All told, Bison Athletics received a record $2,421,885 in annual support during the 2014-15 fiscal year.

We are extremely fortunate to have a dedicated core of athletics donors at Bucknell, and I cannot thank them enough for their continued support of our varsity programs,” director of athletics and recreation John Hardt said. “That annual support has a direct impact on the experience our student-athletes enjoy, and on the levels of success we have in the athletic arena as well as in the classroom.

This is the 12th straight year the Bison Club has topped the $1-million mark, and the third time in the past four years it has been over $2 million. In the past 11 years the Bison Club has raised over $20.6 million in annual support of Bucknell Athletics. The 4,094 donors surpasses the previous high of 3,935 set a year ago in the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

"This success is a combined effort of so many individuals,” said Todd Newcomb '88, the director of the Bison Club. “With the financial support of our donors and the continued cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts led by our head coaches and fundraising staff, we have once again raised the bar and exceeded our stated goal."

In terms of individual sport fundraising, this year matched the unparalleled success from a year ago as a record-tying total of 17 of the 20 programs (list includes all varsity sports plus cheerleading) met their individual fundraising goals. Nine of those programs topped the $100,000 mark, and 12 of the 20 set records in terms of dollars raised in a single year.
