Bucknell Places Second in 2014-15 Presidents' Cup Standings

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Fueled by championships in women's indoor and outdoor track and field and men's soccer, along with regular-season titles in field hockey and men's basketball, Bucknell finished a close second behind Navy for the 2014-15 Corvias Patriot League Presidents' Cup with all 24 league-sponsored sports now complete.
Navy finished with 154 points, with Bucknell close behind with 150.5. This was the 25th year of all-sports competition in the Patriot League. Bucknell has captured the Presidents' Cup 18 times while finishing second four times and third three times. Bucknell, Army West Point (4) and Navy (3) are the only Patriot Legaue institutions to hoist the cup.
Boston University finished third with 135 points, followed by Lehigh (127.25), Army West Point (119.25), Colgate (94), Holy Cross (80.25), Lafayette (68.25), American (65.5) and Loyola (59.5).
Bucknell also placed second in both the men's and women's standings. Navy was the men's Cup winner with 74.75 points, just ahead of the Bison with 70. In the women's race, Boston University edged Bucknell by just 1.5 points, 82-80.5. Navy was a close third in the women's standings with 79.25 points.
Presidents' Cup points are awarded based on a team's performance in the regular season and postseason Patriot League standings. In cross country, golf, rowing, swimming and diving and track and field, the points are awarded based on the final team standing at the Patriot League Championship. Points for football are awarded based on regular-season standings.
In addition to the league championships mentioned above, the Bucknell women's cross country team shared first-place points with Boston University. The Bison and Terriers tied for first at the Patriot League Championship in the fall. Boston University was declared the champion based on a tiebreaker, but ties are not broken for the purposes of Presidents' Cup scoring.
Bucknell also collected runner-up finishes in men's cross country, football, men's indoor track and field, women's swimming and diving, softball and rowing.
