LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell softball was the recipient of three awards at the University's annual Senior Athletics Awards Banquet on Tuesday. Cydnee Sanders took home the Bison Club Award, Kristen Zahn was given the John F. Zeller Award, and Tori Robinson received the 'Ray Bucknell Diversity Award.
The Bison Club Award is presented to the senior athletes who best exemplify the winning spirit of the University's athletic program. Sanders has embodied that type of student-athlete. She was named the 2014 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year after posting a .482 batting average, which ranked third in the entire country. She is a two-time All-Patriot League selection and ranks in the top 10 on Bucknell's career list in games played (186), batting average (.370), hits (203) and runs scored (116). With just three more hits, she will break the career record of 205 set by Lisa Fink (1990-93).
The John F. Zeller award is presented for outstanding contributions for Bucknell athletics. Zahn has done that as a team captain, while leading the Bison in average (.385) and RBIs (50) this season. The 50 RBIs has already smashed the previous record of 35 with at least five games remaining on the schedule.
The 'Ray Bucknell Diversity Award is presented to a student-athlete who through his/her actions has worked to eliminate attitudes and actions that have separated, excluded or marginalized people in the past and has facilitated true understanding and recognition among multiple campus and Lewisburg constituencies. Robinson was a facilitator for Common Ground, a five-day student led retreat dedicated to exploring topics relating to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender in order to build acceptance in the Bucknell community.
