LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's tennis will put its five-match winning streak on the line when it hits the road for two Patriot League matches this weekend. The Bison will travel to play Loyola (Md.) on Saturday at 1 p.m., and will then make the short trip to Annapolis for a match at Navy on Sunday at noon.
Lisa Jouravleva picked up a pair of awards after leading the Bison to shutout wins over Lafayette and Colgate last week. She was named the Patriot League Player of the Week and the ECAC South Rookie of the Week after going a perfect 2-0 in both singles and doubles. The freshman is 11-4 in singles this spring and unbeaten in her past six matches, all while playing at No. 2.
Playing at the No. 1 spot in singles, junior Maria Cioffi has joined Jouravleva in giving the Bison a solid one-two punch at the top of the lineup. She has won five straight matches to go to 7-6 this spring. She is 62-28 during her career, which ranks eighth on Bucknell's career wins list in singles play.
Michele Urbinati and Madeline Melch are both 2-0 in Patriot League action this season, while Stephanie Pino and Melissa Parks are each 1-0 and were both winning their matches against Lafayette before play was halted.
The Bison have out-scored their opponents 30-3 during their five-match unbeaten streak. The turnaround has helped the team improve to 6-9 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
Loyola (Md.) is 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the league after a 6-1 loss to first-place Navy in its most recent match. The Mids improved to 17-6 overall and 3-0 in the conference with their ninth straight win.
