LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's track and field team wraps up the indoor season with the IC4A Championships on Friday-Sunday at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center. The Bison will send 16 athletes to compete in 19 individual events, as well as multiple relay teams.
"The IC4A Championships has traditionally been a great meet for our athletes to strive for and we have had a lot of success over the years," said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. "It's a championship of the east coast. I believe we have a lot of athletes and relay teams that have a chance to place or even win. It is also a great meet to gain big-meet experience to prepare for the outdoor season."
The top eight in each event will receive All-East honors. Based on performances during the indoor season up to this point, Christian Lupica has the best opportunity for the Bison. He enters with the seventh best time in the 60-meter hurdles (7.90).
The Bison earned their highest finish and point total in program history at last year's IC4A Championships, taking sixth with 42 points. Five current members of the team brought home All-East accolades, led by Lupica in the 60-meter hurdles and the 4x400 relay. John Westwood took third in the 1,000m, Jack Fellows was seventh in the weight throw, and Kevin Tapper and Anthony Menza joined Lupica on the 4x400 team that won with a school-record time.
Westwood will again compete in the 1,000m at this year's meet, and will be joined by Andrew Garcia-Garrison, the school-record holder in the mile. Garcia-Garrison won the event at the Patriot League Championships with a time of 2:25.35, while Westwood was fifth in 2:27.56.
Fellows will compete in both the weight throw and shot put. He will be joined by Brian Monahan and Olu Shoyoye in the weight throw, and by Monahan and Joseph Breen in the shot put. The group combined for six top-eight finishes at the Patriot League Championships.
Both Tapper and Menza are penciled in to compete in the 4x400. They will be joined by Grant Reynolds and Jacob Ashkettle. Reynolds will also compete in the 60-meter hurdles.
