FARMVILLE, Va. -- Freshman Lisa Jouravleva won her second dual singles match in as many days, but Longwood earned the remainder of the points and defeated Bucknell 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Jouravlova was a winner at No. 2 singles against Richmond on Friday, and less than 24 hours later she topped Longwood's Anna Pelak in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
The Lancers swept the three doubles matches, including a win in a tiebreak at No. 1 by Malin Allgurin and Paloma Alatorre over Maria Cioffi and Alyssa McAndrew. Allgurin later topped Cioffi 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
Bison freshman Madeline Melch played well at No. 3 singles but was clipped by Maria Coronel, 5-7, 7-6, (10-7).
"It is very early in the season, and every match we get under our belt will be better," said coach Rebecca Helt. "We just need to get our timing back. Our freshman definitely looked good this weekend, especially Jouravleva, coming away with two singles wins at the top of the line up. We have two weeks to focus on our weak areas before we see Saint Francis."
The Bison (0-2) visit Saint Francis in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, on Feb. 20.
