LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Andrew Garcia-Garrison's performance at the Patriot League Championships stood out in a banner week for Bucknell athletics and has earned him the 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week award.
Garcia-Garrison earned the Patriot League Track Athlete of the Year honor by taking first place in the 1,000-meter (2:25.35) and the mile (4:12.42) and as part of the Bison's distance medley (10:02.76) and 4X800 relay teams.
Garcia-Garrison was the anchor on the 4x800 team that broke a 39-year old school record, as well as the Patriot League record, with a time of 7:28.36. He took the baton with the Bison in third place before passing both leading runners to win in a three-way photo finish.
Bucknell's men took second at the championship meet, while the women won the Patriot League title. The outstanding week for Bison sports also included record-setting performances by the men's and women's swimming and diving teams at the conference championships, the men's basketball team clinching at least a share of the Patriot League regular season title, baseball's three-game sweep of VCU, two Patriot League wins for women's basketball, and a last-minute goal by men's lacrosse to notch a win over archrival Navy for the fifth straight year.
