ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Senior Andrew Garcia-Garrison won four events, including three on the final day, to lead the Bucknell men's track and field team to a runner-up finish Sunday at the Patriot League Championships.
Garcia-Garrison earned Patriot League Men's Track Athlete of the Year for his performance. On Sunday, he won the mile in 4:12.42, the 1,000m in 2:25.35 and anchored the first-place distance medley relay team that crossed the line in 10:02.76. He was joined on the DMR team by John Westwood, Grant Reynolds and Alex Jagelsky.
“Navy is tough to beat at home and they definitely had great depth,” said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner, who was named Patriot League Coach of the Year on the women's side. “I was so proud to see our men clawing and scratching for every point even after it was apparent Navy was going to win. Boston really gave us a great challenge, so walking away with a second-place trophy was nice. I really enjoy this team and am privileged to work with some great scholars, athletes and gentlemen. We are really looking forward IC4As and the outdoor season.”
Navy won the team title with 228.5 points, while the Bison were second with 146.25. Boston University (136), Army (104) and Lehigh (101) rounded out the top five teams.
Christian Lupica successfully defended his title in the 60-meter hurdles, winning with a time of 8.03. Grant Reynolds took third in the event. Lupica was also fifth in the 60-meter dash and sixth in the 200m. He was followed in the 200m by teammate Kevin Tapper.
Tapper was one of four Bucknell athletes with third-place finishes in individual events on the day. He took third in the triple jump, while Anthony Menza took third in the 500m and Alex Jagelsky did the same in the 800m.
Also finishing third for the Bison was the 4x400-meter relay team. Jacob Ashkettle joined Menza, Tapper and Lupica on the team, which crossed the line in 3:18.30.
The Bison will have a two-week break before competing in the IC4A Championships, to be held in Boston on March 7-8.
