LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's track and field team won five events at the Bucknell Tune-Up on Friday night in Gerhard Fieldhouse. It was the final event for the Bison before the Patriot League Championships.
“Both teams accomplished exactly what we were hoping today,” said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. “We had some great performances and now we have to make some tough decisions on our league lineup, which was what I was hoping to do. We seem to be primed for a nice league meet next week.”
The Bucknell throwers continued to move their way up the program's all-time list, led by Joseph Breen and Brian Monahan. The pair finished second and third in the shot put on Friday, and rank third and fourth in the school's record book with tosses of 54-11 ¼ and 54-8 ¼, respectively. Meanwhile, Jack Fellows was the winner in the weight throw with a mark of 58-4 ¾, while Monahan took third.
The Bison won three titles in running events. Andrew Garcia-Garrison, the school record holder in the mile, ran the 800m for the first time this season and won with a time of 1:54.47 (IC4A qualifying), while Louis Tobias took third. John Westwood took the title in the 1,000m in 2:27.45, and Christian Lupica ran his fastest time of the season (7.92) to win the 60-meter hurdles.
Elijah Kay cleared 6-6 ¾ on his first attempt to win the high jump for the Bison.
Will Bordash became the latest Bucknell athlete to qualify for the IC4A Championships, taking the runner-up spot in the mile in 4:17.57. Kevin Tapper (200m), Griffin Robertson (500m), and Maxwell Prizant (pole vault) also finished second in their respective events.
The Patriot League Championships will be held at Navy on Feb. 20-22.
