LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its weekly volleyball awards on Monday, and Bucknell's Blake Buchholz (Waupun, Wis./Waupun) was named the Molten Rookie of the Week after playing a key role in a busy weekend for the Bison. Buchholz displayed her all-around skills as the Bison went five sets in a loss to Lehigh and a win over Lafayette.
Buchholz earns her first Rookie of the Week honor this season after helping the Bison to a 1-1 weekend. The freshman tallied back-to-back double-doubles with 15 kills and 14 digs in a 3-2 loss to Lehigh and 11 kills and 22 digs in a 3-2 win over Lafayette. She hit .278 across the 10 sets in two contests, totaling 26 kills and four errors on 79 attempts, in addition to recording a total of 36 digs for 3.6 digs per set.
Buchholz ranks near the top in multiple categories for the Bison, including a team-leading 3.0 digs per set. She is second behind senior Karen Campbell in kills with 2.53 per set.
After two grueling matches this past weekend, Bucknell has a lighter schedule this week. The Bison will host Loyola (Md.) on Friday in their only weekend match, and will travel to play Colgate on Monday. Bucknell is 8-7 overall and 2-3 in the Patriot League. The three conference losses all came to teams in the top four of the league standings.
