HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Bucknell women's basketball team suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season with a 54-41 defeat at Colgate on Saturday at Cotterell Court. Entering the Patriot League matchup with the Raiders, the Bison (13-8, 5-5 PL) were 6-0 after a loss this season.
Carole Harris posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Missy Repoli added 16 points for Colgate, which improved to 4-17 overall and 3-7 in the Patriot League. Four of the Raiders' seven conference losses came by just two points, including a 77-75 overtime defeat to the Bison at Sojka Pavilion.
Claire DeBoer just missed a double-double, finishing with 12 points and nine rebounds. But no other Bucknell player reached double figures as the Bison were plagued by 25 turnovers to only four assists. They were coming off a game in which they committed just six turnovers.
Midway through the second half, Mariah Jones connected from long range to put Colgate up 43-32, its largest lead to that point. Bucknell's defense picked it up after that, holding the Raiders scoreless for nearly six minutes. Sophomore Megan McGurk closed the gap to six, 43-37, on a jumper with 8:36 to play.
Tori Pozsonyi finally ended the Raiders' drought with a bucket that put them up 45-37, but sophomore Sune Swart quickly responded with a layup to pull the Bison back within six. Colgate went on a 5-0 run to get its lead back to double digits, and Bucknell never got within striking range again. The Bison ended the game with a scoring drought of their own, going the final 3:52 without a point.
Freshman Carly Richardson came off the bench to score seven points and grab four rebounds for Bucknell. McGurk and junior Claire Maree O'Bryan scored six point apiece, while senior Audrey Dotson contributed six boards.
Bucknell returns to Sojka Pavilion for a Patriot League game against Lafayette on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
