LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's track and field team turned in a dominant performance on its way to winning the Gulden Invitational for the fourth straight year on Saturday at Gerhard Fieldhouse. Two members of the Bison team were honored with M-F Athletic Patriot League weekly awards for their role in the team title. Senior Christian Lupica (Newtown, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) was selected as the Male Track Athlete of the Week, while freshman Nicholas Lombardo (Darien, Conn./Darien) received Rookie of the Week honors.
Lupica, who was named the running event MVP for the third straight year, won the 60-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash, doing so with IC4A standards in both events. He ran the 60-meter hurdles in 8.00 after posting a 7.98 in the prelims, and finished the 200m in a time of 22.00. Lupica also ran the anchor leg on Bucknell's winning 4x400m relay team that posted an IC4A qualifying time.
Lombardo tied for first place in the high jump with a mark of 6-6 3/4, just short of the IC4A standard. He cleared the height on his first attempt.
The Gulden Invitational was the second of four home events for the Bison during the indoor season. They will host the Bison Open and Multi on Jan. 30-31, and the Bucknell Tune-Up on Feb. 13.
