LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell wrestling program has been recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association for winning the Best of Brand Throwdown Challenge. The Bison earlier this week had a picture posted on their Twitter account retweeted more than 200 times to win the competition.
The Best of Brand initiative is designed to reward wrestling programs for their investments made in marketing initiatives.
Bucknell's wrestling program tweeted a black and white picture of former Bison All-American Kevin LeValley defeating Cornell's Kyle Dake at the 2011 EIWA Championships at Sojka Pavilion highlighted in color. The picture received more retweets than any other program's image entered in the competition.
The Bison also had a couple other pieces of good news this week. Bucknell, which last month entered the national rankings for the first time, moved up to No. 24 nationally after a 2-2 weekend at the Virginia Duals that featured a 25-12 victory over No. 17 Rider. Additionally, the NCAA released its statistical leaders for the 2014-15 season and Bison senior heavyweight Joe Stolfi is ranked second nationally with 12 wins by fall. He is tied for third on Bucknell's career list with 44, just six shy of the program's all-time standard.
The Bison will return to the mat this Saturday, Jan. 17, when they host George Mason and Sacred Heart. Both matches will air live on Bison Vision on the Patriot League Network. The George Mason match begins at 11 a.m. with George Mason-Sacred Heart and Bucknell-Sacred Heart to follow. Former Bison head coach Bill Wrabley and the 1957-58 team he coached to an undefeated record will be honored prior to the final match of the day.
