LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's tennis freshman Madeline Melch handily won the B Singles title in her very first collegiate event as the wrapped up the three-day Bucknell Tournament Sunday with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over IUP's Rachel Wood. Junior Maria Cioffi and classmate Stephanie Pino gave the Bison two titles as they won the doubles crown.
Melch posted a 4-0 record over the weekend en route to her title. No opponent managed to win more than three games against Melch in any match as her 6-1, 6-3 semifinal victory Saturday proved to be her toughest challenge.
Like Melch, Cioffi and Pino went 4-0 over the weekend. Their 8-3 finals victory came against a pair from Concordia, while their 8-4 semifinal win was over a duo from IUP.
Cioffi also had success on an individual level this weekend as she advanced to the finals of A Singles. However, she fell by a 6-3, 6-3 score to Costanza Mecchi in Sunday's championship match.
Bucknell will be back in action next weekend at the three-day Carnegie Mellon Invite.
