Bucknell Places Third in Patriot League Presidents' Cup Standings

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell closed out the 2013-14 Patriot League championship season with a bang, claiming the baseball title last Friday in the final league tournament of the year. Buoyed by championships in baseball and women's golf, Bucknell placed third in this year's Patriot League Presidents' Cup standings, trailing Navy and Boston University in a closely contested race for the league's all-sports trophy.
Navy topped the league with 148 points, followed by Boston University with 144.75 and Bucknell with 140. Army was fourth with 130.25, followed by Lehigh (128), Colgate (78.75), Holy Cross (78.5), American (73.25), Lafayette (64.75) and Loyola (60.25).
Presidents' Cup points are awarded based on a team's performance in the regular season and postseason Patriot League standings. In cross country, golf, rowing, swimming and diving and track and field, the points are awarded based on the final team standing at the Patriot League Championship. Points for football are awarded based on regular-season standings.
The Patriot League also awards Men's and Women's trophies, and Bucknell also finished third in both of those competitions. Army captured the men's Cup with 71,75 points, followed by Navy with 69 and Bucknell with 63.25. Boston University claimed the women's Cup with 94 points. Navy took second with 79 and the Bison third with 76.75.
In addition to the championships in baseball and women's golf, Bucknell also turned in runner-up finishes in football, softball, women's swimming and diving and men's indoor and outdoor track and field.
This was the 24th season of Patriot League all-sports competition, and Bucknell has won a league-high 18 Presidents' Cup titles. Army has claimed four and Navy two.
