LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Senior Lauren Bernard, one of the driving forces behind the Bucknell women's golf team's Patriot League Championship victory at Saucon Valley Country Club over the weekend, has been picked as the Bison Athlete of the Week.
Bernard finished in third place in the individual standings with a team-low 228 total over 54 holes. She posted scores of 79-73-76, with her 1-over-par 73 in the second round matching the lowest score in the field in the entire tournament. Bernard made a birdie, a double-bogey and 16 pars in that terrific second round, and it helped give the Bison a one-shot lead over Lehigh entering the final round.
The Bison would eventually hold off Boston University by three shots for the title. Bernard posted a par-par finish at the difficult 17th and 18th holes in the penultimate group of the day to help clinch the title.
It was a special weekend for Bernard and her two senior classmates Kasha Scott and Bridget Wilcox. All three finished in the top five individually, and they pocketed their fourth career tournament title but the first in program history in a conference championship event.
Bernard finished the season with a team-best 79.3 scoring average, and she will graduate as a three-time all-conference performer. She earned All-Big South honors as a freshman in 2011 and now has picked up All-Patriot League citations in each of the last two years.
