Softball Tournament at Longwood Cancelled

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lancer Leadoff Tournament that was scheduled to be hosted by the Longwood softball team on Saturday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 16 has been cancelled due to the wintery weather that has swept the East Coast. Bucknell was slated to continue its 2014 campaign with a four-game schedule featuring a pair of contests with Longwood and one each against Georgetown and Saint Joseph's, but the missed games will not be made up.
The Bison opened their 2014 season last weekend at the Cleveland State University Dome Tournament, playing to a 1-3 record over the course of the two-day competition. After dropping two tight decisions on Saturday, falling 1-0 to Cleveland State and 11-10 in eight innings to Canisius, Bucknell earned its first win of the season on Sunday, taking a 2-0 victory over Bowling Green before wrapping up the weekend with a 4-3 loss to Robert Morris. The tournament was full of promise for the focused Bison squad, and featured impressive offensive production as well as strong efforts by a young pitching staff.
Bucknell will resume competition in two weeks with five games in the UNCW Beach Bash in Wilmington, N.C., from Feb. 28 to March 2. The Bison will kick off the weekend with a 9 a.m. contest against Brown on Friday, and will also meet UNC Greensboro and the host school, UNC Wilmington, over the course of the three-day tournament.
