LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell wrestling team has competed in just one dual over the first month-and-a-half of the season, but this weekend the Bison will wrestle in three duals in a 24-hour span. Bucknell (0-1, 0-0 EIWA) will host No. 10 Virginia in its home opener Saturday at 2 p.m. and will then travel to New York City to face Davidson (10 a.m.) and EIWA opponent Hofstra (12 p.m.) at Sunday's prestigious Grapple at the Garden.
Saturday's match vs. Virginia will take place in Davis Gym. Admission is free. A free live video broadcast will be available via Bison Vision on the Patriot League Network, while live results will be available on trackwrestling.com.
This is the third consecutive year Bucknell and Virginia have met. The Cavaliers, who are 5-1 this season and could have up to five ranked wrestlers in their lineup, have won each of the last seven meetings in the series.
The Bison will be taking part in the Grapple at the Garden for the second time in three years. Bucknell wrestled nationally ranked Iowa two years ago the first time the popular event was held and lost by a 34-9 margin.
The Grapple at the Garden will have a live video broadcast available via FloWrestling for a fee, while live results will be listed on trackwrestling.com.
Tickets for the Grapple at the Garden range in price from $20 to $55. Fourteen Division I teams will be at the event, which will feature eight mats set up on the Madison Square Garden floor.
Sunday's match will be the first time Bucknell and Davidson have met in a dual, while the Bison hold a 13-9 edge over Hofstra in a series that dates to 1970.
Bucknell's lineup this weekend will feature two ranked wrestlers in 2014 NCAA qualifiers Paul Petrov (No. 16 at 125) and Joe Stolfi (No. 19 at 285). Stolfi leads the Bison with 13 wins this year, while his 38 career pins place him fifth in the school record book.
Following this weekend's busy slate, Bucknell will be idle until traveling to Michigan State for a Jan. 4 dual. Bison head coach Dan Wirnsberger was an All-American for the Spartans.
