LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell wrestling fans will have plenty of opportunities to see the Bison in action at home this weekend. Bucknell will host Brown and Clarion on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m., while Penn will come to town Sunday for a 2 p.m. match. Brown and Clarion will square off in between Bucknell's two duals on Saturday, meaning four matches will take place in Davis Gym in a span of just over 24 hours. Admission is free and the three Bucknell matches will air live free of charge on Bison Vision on the Patriot League Network.
Bucknell is 3-6 overall this season and 1-0 against EIWA opponents. Brown and Penn are EIWA foes, while Saturday's Clarion match is a non-league competition.
The Bison were last in action last week at the Virginia Duals where they posted a 1-2 mark, falling to No. 22 Bloomsburg and The Citadel and beating George Mason. Sophomore 125-pounder Paul Petrov was the star of the day, going 3-0 with three bonus-point victories. He is now 17-6 on the year and has won 12 of his last 14 bouts.
Junior 285-pounder Joe Stolfi, who is ranked 19th nationally this week by Amateur Wrestling News, has matched Petrov with a team-best 17-6 mark this season. Thirteen of Stolfi's wins are by fall, which places him second in the nation in that category. He now has 22 career pins, placing him 10th on the program's all-time list.
As has been the case all year with the young Bucknell squad, the Bison are expected to start up to six freshmen and two sophomores this weekend.
Brown brings an 0-3 record into the weekend, while Clarion is 5-9. Penn is 2-3 and faces Binghamton on Friday evening.
Bucknell is 5-2 all-time against Brown and has won the last four meetings. The two teams will be meeting for the first time since February 2011.
Clarion holds a 2-0 edge over the Bison, including a 25-16 decision last February.
Bucknell is 3-7 in 10 all-time meetings with Penn. The Quakers have won four in a row, including a 23-10 match last January.
Following this weekend, the Bison have just two more home matches left (Jan. 31 vs. American, Feb. 15 vs. VMI). Bucknell will return to action next Friday, Jan. 24, at Columbia. Match time is 7 p.m.
