Volleyball Opens PL Play with 3-0 Loss at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Bucknell freshman Erika Eastley had 12 kills, six blocks and hit .526 in the Patriot League opener at Holy Cross, but the Bison volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Crusaders Friday evening. Bucknell fell to 6-4, 0-1 PL on the season, while Holy Cross improved to 6-5, 1-0 PL.
Eastley and fellow freshman Jordan Walker combined for 11 block assists in the match that saw all three sets decided by two or three points. Holy Cross earned its third consecutive victory by scores of 28-26, 25-22, 25-23.
Bucknell had an early lead in all three sets and reached 10 points first in each, but the Crusaders outscored the Bison down the stretch in all three.
Keane Brazda was credited with a team-high 23 assists for Bucknell, while Katie Price (15) and Morgan Mientus (13) reached double-figures in digs. Eastley and Karen Campbell (.222) were the only two Bison to hit better than .200 in the match as the team's tally was .062.
Holy Cross hit .126 in the match, including .047 in the deciding third set. Emily Oliver was the only Crusader to reach double figures in kills (10), while Kamele Shizuru hit a team-best .250 with six kills.
Bucknell and Holy Cross will square off again Oct. 26 in Davis Gym. The Bison have defeated the Crusaders 11 straight years at home.
Bucknell will continue its road trip Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. match at Army.
