LEWISBURG, Pa. - At the conclusion of the Patriot League Tournament, Bucknell softball's Mariah Midyette and Dana Nielsen were both named to the All-Tournament Team, the league announced. Midyette hit .500 and Nielsen went 1-1 with a 2.55 ERA in Bucknell's three postseason games.
Midyette led Bucknell with her batting average. The freshman went 4-for-8 at the plate with three RBI. She also totaled two doubles, both coming in Bucknell's two games against eventual champions Army. Midyette also recorded her first postseason multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 in Bucknell's win over Colgate.
Nielsen pitched a complete game against the Raiders, earning the 5-3 victory. In that contest, the rookie gave up just two earned runs on five hits and struck out two. Nielsen also earned two relief appearances against Army. At the end of the tournament, her 2.55 ERA over 11.0 innings was the best on the team as was her .295 opponent batting average. She also had three strikeouts and did not allow a walk.
Bucknell bowed out of the Patriot League Tournament after falling twice to Army. The Bison dropped a 3-2 decision to the Black Knights in the opening game before defeating Colgate by a pair of runs on Friday in an elimination game. Army then came from behind to win 4-3 on Friday as well and advanced to the championship round where it shutout Lehigh in back-to-back games for the title.
Midyette and Nielsen's awards were just the latest in a growing list for the Bison. Prior to the postseason, Cydnee Sanders was named First Team All-Patriot League, while Erin Cox, Amanda Fazio and Kristen Zahn were voted to the Second Team. Sanders, Zahn and Cassie Greenhawk were also Academic All-Patriot League Team selections.
Bucknell finished its season 21-30 overall and 11-9 in the Patriot League. Its Patriot League Tournament berth was its first since 2010. The Bison return all but two starters next season, including both All-Tournament selections and all five All-Patriot League honorees.
