LEWISBURG, Pa. --The Bucknell women's lacrosse team opens up a four-game homestand on Saturday, when Patriot League rival Lafayette visits Graham Field for a 1 p.m. start. The contest will be webcast live on Bison Vision.
Bucknell picked up its second win of the season on Wednesday, routing Howard 22-9 in Washington, D.C. Madison Hurwitz posted a career-high nine points with five goals and four assists. Katelyn Miller added three goals, four assists and eight draw controls, and Cori Thielemann tacked on a career-high four goals.
Miller continues to lead the Bison in goals (23), points (28), ground balls (20) and caused turnovers (16), and she ranks second on the squad in draw controls with 25.
Hurwitz now has 27 points with 14 goals and 13 assists on the season. Ryan Wenk scored three goals in the Howard game and now has 15 goals and five assists. Sophie Kleinert (10-2-12) and Sam Rickels (8-4-12) also have double-digit points.
Adrienne Wendling has a team-high 31 draw controls for the Bison, who are even in that category on the season.
Lafayette comes in with a 7-6 overall record and a 1-2 mark in the Patriot League. The Leopards have not played since March 29, when they edged arch-rival Lehigh 6-5 at Rappolt Field. Lafayette's league losses are at the hands of Holy Cross (20-10) and Navy (15-8).
Addie Godfrey leads the team with 40 goals to go with eight assists. Ana White has a team-best 50 points on 34 goals and 16 assists. Laura Kleiber (24-5-29) and Jessica Rothstein (21-6-27) have also hit the 20-goal plateaus. White leads the Patriot League in draw controls (73), ground balls (33) and caused turnovers (22).
Lafayette leads the all-time series 29-5, but the Bison have won five of the last nine meetings after the Leopards claimed the first 25 in a row.
These two teams locked up in an entertaining, see-saw affair last season, but Bucknell came up just short as the Leopards scored the game's final three goals to post a 14-11 decision at Fisher Stadium. Kleinert led the Bison with with three goals, while Miller had two goals and an assist. Godfrey had five goals and two assists for the Leopards.
Following the Lafayette game, Bucknell will also host St. Bonaventure (Apr. 9), Holy Cross (Apr. 13) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (Apr. 16) before finishing the regular season on the road at Marist on Apr. 20.
