LEWISBURG, Pa. -- It's a two-team race at the inaugural Patriot League Women's Golf Championship, with Lehigh leading Bucknell by five strokes after 36 holes of play, setting up what should be an interesting finish in Sunday's final round. Lehigh took 632 strokes on Saturday, while the Bison posted 637. Navy and Holy Cross are well behind after a tough scoring day that featured cool, breezy conditions.
Led by a terrific 3-over-par 73 from Bridget Wilcox, Bucknell began the day with a 317, then came back with a 320 team total in the afternoon round. Lehigh also got a first-round 73 from Chelsea Michalek and posted rounds of 315-317.
Wilcox birdied the 8th and 18th holes in her opening round, and her 73 was a season-best score. She didn't fare quite as well in the afternoon, finishing with an 85, but Wilcox is still tied for second place in the individual standings, seven shots behind Michalek, who followed up her 73 with a 78.
In the first round, Bucknell also counted a pair of 81s from Lauren Bernard and Kasha Scott and an 82 from Emily Timmons. After opening with an 86, freshman Jen Lee bounced back with a 79 in round two. Bernard, who is making her spring debut after coming back from a foot injury, also posted a second-round 79. Scott carded an 80 in the afternoon, and Timmons logged a second straight 82.
Bernard, who made a birdie and had a nice run of six straight pars in her second round, is in fourth place. Scott (5th), Timmons (8th) and Lee (T9th) are also in the top 10.
Navy is in third place with a 703 total, and Holy Cross is fourth at 737.
The final round begins Sunday morning with tee times starting at 8 a.m. Bucknell and Lehigh will start on hole No. 1, while Navy and Holy Cross will begin on No. 10.
