PHILADELPHIA – Bucknell women's tennis suffered its first-ever loss to Saint Joseph's, falling 6-1 in Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon. Stephanie Pino logged the Bison's only win of the day in a three-set battle at the sixth spot in the lineup. Bucknell is now 5-9 on the year and will return home for its next bout, taking on Towson at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
Pino came back from a set down to defeat Lauren Roy 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 in No. 6 singles. The Bison freshman has now won her third consecutive match on the singles court, giving her the longest active streak on the team.
The team outcome had already been decided by the time Pino walked off the court with her win. Pino and Lydia Colvin had played the closest doubles match but dropped an 8-4 decision at the No. 2 slot. The other five singles matches all went the way of the Hawks in straight sets, although Colvin kept things interesting at No. 3. Kristina Eisenbrand had her hands full against the sophomore but earned the 7-5, 6-3 win despite Colvin's effort.
With Tuesday's outcome, Bucknell is 7-1 all-time against Saint Joseph's. It was the first dual meeting between the two squads since 2003.
