HAMILTON, N.Y. - Alison Flood scored five goals, three of them coming in a game-ending 11-0 run, lifting Colgate past Bucknell 19-7 in the Patriot League women's lacrosse opener for both teams on Saturday at Tyler's Field. Ryan Wenk posted a hat trick for the Bison, who trailed just 8-7 with 25 minutes left before the Raiders pulled away.
Katelyn Miller, Sam Rickels, Adrienne Wendling and Claire Switala also scored goals and Madison Hurwitz dished out two assists for the Bison (0-6, 0-1 PL). Colgate (3-3, 1-0) also received four goals from Amanda O'Sullivan and two goals and four assists from Kate Sheridan.
Switala opened the scoring 3:06 into the contest, and it was an even game for the first 35 minutes. The Raiders used a 3-0 run to go up 4-2, but the Bison drew even on consecutive goals by Wenk.
A Monica White tally with 35 seconds left in the first half gave Colgate a 7-6 lead at the break, and the Raiders tacked on the first goal of the second half off the stick of Brooke Flanagan. Wendling's goal off a Rickels feed with 25:48 to play pulled the Bison within 8-7, but that would be their final goal of the day.
Flood's unassisted goal made it 9-7, and Colgate would go on to score 10 more times, the last coming with one second left in the game.
Bucknell outshot Colgate 14-12 in the first half, but the Raiders had a 15-3 advantage in the second. Colgate led 16-11 in draw controls and had 17 turnovers to 15 for Bucknell.
Sophie Kleinert led the Bison with three draw controls, while defender Andrea Feldman forced three turnovers. Caroline O'Neill stopped six shots for Bucknell, while Jennie Berglin had seven saves and Hanna Longwell one for the Raiders.
Bucknell's six-game road trip comes to an end on Tuesday in Clinton, S.C., where the Bison will play Presbyterian at 4 p.m.
