Bison Women's Tennis Battles Hofstra but Loses 4-3

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. - Bucknell women's tennis nearly gave Hofstra all it could handle, forcing the match to a deciding sixth singles bout but the Bison (2-4) fell short to the Pride (1-1) in Quakertown, Pa. After falling behind early, Bucknell won three of the first five singles matches. The Bison now turn their attention to a handful of March contests, starting in Puerto Rico March 11.
The Bison were unable to get the doubles point, falling in all three matches. That put the pressure on Bucknell's singles players, who put up a good fight. Maria Cioffi cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sarah Bowen at No. 2 singles even the team score. Elena Vidrascu later kept the scored knotted up at two points apiece with her 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Sonia Tsay at the top of the lineup.
A three-setter did not go Lydia Colvin's way as she dropped the 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 battle with Malissa Gilanchi, but Jen Bush did her part to limit the damage. The sophomore defeated Bianca Derrick 6-1, 6-4 at fifth singles.
With Bush's win, the match was to be decided at the sixth spot in the lineup being contested by Paige Polizois and Elizabeth Morgan. Unfortunately for the Bison, that match went the way of the Pride as Polizois won 6-2, 6-2.
Bucknell has now won two straight to Hofstra, shrinking their lead in the all-time series to 6-2.
The Bison will return to the court March 11-14 for a trio of matches in Humacao, Puerto Rico, taking on LIU Brooklyn, Old Dominion and Minnesota State.
