Bucknell Wrestling Drops Final Dual Match of Season to Lehigh, 31-9

LEWISBURG, Pa. - In the final dual match of the season, the Bucknell wrestling team faced Lehigh Friday night in Davis Gym and came away with a 31-9 loss. The Bison picked up two victories on the night from Corey Lear at 165 pounds and Joe Stolfi at 285.
Lear posted bonus points for the Bison with a pin over Lehigh's Ben Haas in 6:22. The dominating victory brought Lear's record to 23-5 on the season and 18-2 in his last 20 matches. Lear led by a 9-0 score at the time of his pin.
In the final match of the evening, Stolfi won a 7-6 decision in a close match up against Lehigh's Max Wessell. The crowd was the loudest of the evening in this match up as both grapplers battled back and forth until the last seconds of the third period. Wessell opened the first period with a takedown but Stolfi responded with an escape and a takedown to take the lead 3-2. A reversal by Wessell followed by an escape by Stolfi evened the score to 4-4 as the first period came to a close. In the second period, back-to-back reversals by Stolfi and then Wessell evened the score once again to 6-6. At that point Stolfi was able to execute an escape and hold on through a scoreless third period to clinch the win at 285 for the Bison.
Lehigh (10-7, 4-4 EIWA) secured eight bouts on the evening with five of those matches bringing in bonus points. The Mountain Hawks currently have four ranked wrestlers in their lineup. This victory marks 14 straight seasons in which Lehigh has won at least 10 matches.
The Bison, who completed the regular season with a 6-14, 2-5 EIWA record, will be back in action in two weeks as they travel to Rutgers to compete in the EIWA Championships beginning on Friday, March 8.
