CLARION, Pa. - Bucknell's hottest wrestlers of late stayed hot on Friday night, but the Bison could not overcome a forfeit at 125 pounds and a pair of other bonus-point losses as they fell by a 25-16 score at Clarion. Paul Petrov, Corey Lear and Joe Stolfi each entered the bout on personal winning streaks and each posted a victory. Robert Marchese also earned a win as Bucknell claimed four of the nine contested bouts.
Petrov was 7-2 in his last nine bouts entering the match, while Lear was 15-2 in his last 17. Stolfi had won nine of his last 10 bouts. Each posted a bonus-point victory for Bucknell (6-12). Petrov won by major decision at 133, while Lear his ninth bonus-point win of the year with a 16-0 tech fall at 165. Stolfi's 10-2 major decision concluded the match.
While not as hot as the other Bison victors, Marchese has been wrestling as well as he has all season of late. Thanks to his 8-4 decision over Steven Cressley, Marchese is now 3-3 in his last six bouts, doubling his season win total.
Clarion (5-8) jumped out to a 19-4 lead before Bucknell captured three of the final five bouts with wins by Lear, Marchese and Stolfi.
Eight of the nine bouts contested were decided by at least four points. The only one closer was the 174-pound matchup of Ryan Darch (Clarion) and Robert Schlitt (Bucknell) that ended with a 4-3 Darch decision.
Bucknell will be back in action Saturday when it travels to Washington, D.C., to face American. Start time for the dual is 7 p.m.
