LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell head women's softball coach Heather Rakosik has announced her resignation in order to pursue other professional opportunities. A national search for her replacement will begin immediately.
"I would like to thank Coach Rakosik for her eight years of service to Bucknell Athletics. We certainly wish Heather the best of luck in all her future endeavors," said director of athletics and recreation John Hardt.
After guiding the Bison to the program's second Patriot League Championship trophy in 2010, Rakosik led the team to the program's first-ever NCAA Championships appearance and a trip to the Columbus, Ohio, Region with California, Ohio State and Kentucky. She won more than 140 games and sits in second place on the Bison career wins list.
Next season Bucknell will return eight starters, including its 2012 First Team All-Patriot League selection Mary Horton, from a 2012 squad that finished 11-34 with a lineup consisting primarily of underclassmen.
