Bison Women's Tennis Defeated by George Mason, 5-2

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team (2-15) was handed a 5-2 loss by George Mason (9-4) Saturday afternoon at the Bucknell Varsity Tennis Courts. This match was the third loss in three days and second straight at home for the Bison women.
Sophomore Elizabeth Morgan and freshman Lauren Boone battled in several rallies against Tori Zalewski and Ekaterina Desiatnikova at the No. 3 doubles position. Morgan and Boone, who were playing with each other for just the second time eventually, won the match, 8-7.
In doubles play Dumitrita Iepuras and Lydia Colvin fought hard at the No. 2 slot but the two ended up falling in their match to Alison Wingo and Brooke Blackwell by the score of 9-7.
In singles action the Bison picked up their intensity on the afternoon but it was not enough to overpower the Patriots.
Iepuras won her second straight singles match in two days after defeating Alison Wingo Saturday afternoon in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Iepuras also won Friday at the No.1 singles position over Alex Petrini of Colgate, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.
The other Bison to pick up her second win in two straight matches was freshman Christie Schneider. Schneider won her first set over Liza Davis 6-4 and held a 1-0 lead before her opponent retired from the match.
Bucknell will return to action next Wednesday when it hosts Patriot League opponent Lehigh at 3:30 p.m. on the Varsity Tennis Courts. Lehigh is 4-12 overall and 1-2 in Patriot League play.
