LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team (2-12, 0-1 PL) will compete in three straight matches heading into the weekend starting Thursday afternoon at Towson at 2 p.m. The women will then return home for two fixtures, the first being Friday at 1 p.m. versus Patriot League opponent Colgate and the second on Saturday at 11 a.m. as the Bison take on George Mason. Both home fixtures will be played at Bucknell's Varsity Tennis Courts.
Bucknell will face Towson for the first time since the spring of 2009 when the Bison swept the contest, 7-0. The only player on the Bison's roster that competed against Towson in their last meeting was senior Dumitrita Iepuras who won her No. 4 singles match, 6-0, 6-0. Bucknell is heading into the match with the Tigers losing its last eight matches this spring. The Bison do claim the all-time lead versus Towson with a 13-2 record.
Towson is heading into Thursday's match with an overall record of 8-5. The Tigers have a three-match losing streak entering their matchup with Stony Brook before meeting Bucknell. The Tigers' freshman Anaya Dow has a 10-6 singles record and is 15-5 in doubles matches so far this season.
In Friday's match the Bison will take on Patriot League foe Colgate (4-11, 1-2 PL). The Raiders will have one match against Hamilton before traveling to encounter Bucknell. The Bison trail Colgate 15-19 in the all-time series between the two schools.
In last year's meeting Bucknell won the contest in a decisive manner, 6-1. Returning players Iepuras and Elena Vidrascu each picked up two wins over the Raiders in the victory. Vidrascu looks to improve upon her 9-10 singles record which dates back to the fall of the 2011-12 season.
In the final match of the week George Mason will visit Lewisburg to take on the Bison. George Mason is 8-5 on the year and will face Bloomsburg before meeting Bucknell on Saturday. The Bison hold an all-time record of 2-1 against the Patriots with the last meeting in 1985 going to Bucknell, 7-2.
The women will follow these three matches when they play host to another Patriot League contest next Wednesday against Lehigh at 3 p.m.
