Bucknell Men's Tennis Bows Out to Navy 4-1 in Patriot League Tournament Semifinals

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell men's tennis team had a short turnaround from yesterday's win in the quarterfinal before facing No. 1 seeded Navy (17-8) Saturday morning. The Midshipmen knocked the No. 4 seeded Bison out of the tournament, 4-1. Bucknell ends its season with the loss in the tournament semis, finishing with a 10-14 record during the spring campaign.
Bucknell started off on the right foot, taking the doubles point from the Mids in two matches. Josh Katten and Evan Zimmer finished first on the day in their No. 2 contest beating Tyler Burnett and Marcus Rebersak, 8-3. Zimmer ends the 2011-12 season with 31 doubles wins which is a Bucknell single-season record. The previous title holder was Ira Reibeisen in 2007-08 with 28 wins.
In the No. 1 slot, Gregg Cohenca and Aidan Lynch challenged Calvin Mark and Peter McDonald in a back-and-forth match. The Bison duo ultimately prevailed winning by the score of 8-5. Mark and McDonald won the earlier season matchup over Cohenca and Lynch, 8-4.
In singles play the Bison were outdone by the Mids, losing four matches in straight sets to see Navy through to the final. Katten faced McDonald in a competitive No. 2 singles bout that ended up in favor of the Mids' player, 6-4, 6-4.
Senior Gregory Maxson lost his No. 6 singles flight to Burnett, 6-2, 6-2. The Bucknell captain ends his career with a 73-51 record which is good enough for 23rd on the all-time victories list. Maxson also sits at No. 6 on the all-time singles wins list with a record of 55-33.
Captain Cohenca did not finish his match at the No. 1 slot by the time Navy had sealed the team win. Cohenca will end his prolific career in third on the all-time wins list at Bucknell with a 118-113 record. He also finishes No. 2 in the all-time doubles rankings with a record of 70-49.
