Bucknell Tennis Takes on Bloomsburg in Final Regular-Season Match

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's and women's tennis teams will head to Bloomsburg University to take on the Huskies in their regular-season finale Wednesday at 4 p.m. For the women it will be their last match of the year and on the men's side it will be a tune-up for the Patriot League Tournament this coming Friday.
The women will look to finalize their season with an exclamation point as they are coming off of a semifinal tournament loss to Navy. The Bison enter the match with a 6-17 overall record as they look to take down the Huskies who are 11-8 during the spring season.
Entering Wednesday's match senior Dumitrita Iepuras has an 8-12 record in singles matches this spring and ranks eighth all-time in victories at Bucknell. Freshman Lydia Colvin will bring a 10-10 doubles record, which leads all members on the Bison squad, into the matchup with Bloomsburg.
Bloomsburg heads into the contest winning three of its last five and finishing third in the PSAC Tournament this past Saturday. Bloomsburg standout sophomore Michelle Perez is 11-2 in singles play and 12-2 in doubles with partner Emily Palko during the spring season. The last time Bucknell and Bloomsburg met in 2010 the Bison walked away with a 6-0 win. Bucknell holds the all-time series lead with a 30-8 record.
On the men's side Bucknell heads into the bout with an 8-13 overall record. Josh Katten and Evan Zimmer swept doubles play in league action and have won nine straight matches at the No. 2 position. Zimmer has an impressive 19-2 dual doubles record this spring and holds an overall record of 29-5 for the 2011-12 season.
The Bison will face a Bloomsburg team that is 15-4 during the spring. The Huskies are coming off of winning the PSAC Championship this past Saturday over Kutztown University. The last time Bucknell faced Bloomsburg was in 2007 with the Bison coming out on top, 6-1. Bloomsburg holds the all-time series lead 14-12 over the Bison.
Both teams will look to build momentum before heading into postseason tournaments this weekend. The Huskies will move onto the NCAA Regional play this Saturday and the Bison will head to the Patriot League Tournament as the No. 4 seed to face No. 5 Colgate at 9 a.m. Friday in Annapolis, Md.
