LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's and women's tennis teams prepare for their final home match of the season this Wednesday against Robert Morris at the Varsity Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. Bucknell will recognize Gregg Cohenca and Gregory Maxson on the men's side and Dumitrita Iepuras and Courtney Casey for the women on Wednesday's Senior Day. The men will travel to Lehigh in its Patriot League regular-season finale Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 before turning its attention to Robert Morris.
The men's team (7-12, 2-2 PL) will face Lehigh (10-7, 2-1 PL) in its regular-season conference finale Tuesday in Bethlehem, Pa. Lehigh enters the bout on a two-match league winning streak with its most recent win being an impressive 5-2 defeat of Army. Currently third in the league standings, the Mountain Hawks will end their regular-season conference play next Monday against Lafayette.
Bucknell's senior captain Cohenca enters the week in sole possession of third place all-time in doubles with a 68-46 record and fifth all-time in combined victories at 115-108. He needs just three more wins to move into sole possession of third place in combined victories at Bucknell.
Senior captain Maxson enters Tuesday's match against Lehigh with a 52-30 overall singles record at Bucknell. His singles record ranks him in a tie for seventh place all-time for the Bison and he also ranks 26th in combined victories all-time needing one more victory to move into the top 25.
Junior Josh Katten will head into the contest against Lehigh undefeated in singles action against Patriot League foes. Katten is the only member of the squad to beat each of his four league opponents in singles action and him and partner Evan Zimmer are also undefeated in doubles league play this spring. Last year Katten lost in straight sets to Lehigh's Mark Goldberg but Bucknell ultimately won the match over the Mountain Hawks, 5-2.
Katten has also earned the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week for his four win performance against Army and Lafayette. He is the first male or female tennis player to win the award during the 2011-12 season.
The men will then have a quick turnaround to Wednesday's Senior Day match with Robert Morris. The Colonials enter the contest 2-13 during the spring season. Their last match was a win over conference opponent St. Francis (N.Y.), 5-1.
On the women's side, the Bison are returning to play after beating two out of their last three Patriot League opponents. Bucknell enters the match with a 4-16 overall and 2-3 league record. The Bison will take on a Robert Morris team that is 4-11 this spring. The last time Bucknell faced Robert Morris was in the spring of 2010 with the Bison coming out on top, 7-0.
Senior captain Casey enters Senior Day with a 64-74 record at Bucknell. That ranks her 21st on the all-time victories list for the Bison. She enters the final home match of the year winning four of her last six matches in singles and doubles play.
Iepuras will play her last home match ranked as Bucknell's eighth-best tennis player, holding a 112-93 all-time record with the Bison. She will face Robert Morris with a 6-12 record at the No. 1 singles position this spring and 5-13 in doubles action.
The women's team will return to action on Friday at the Patriot League Tournament in Bethlehem, Pa. The men will play again at Bloomsburg on April 25th at 4 p.m.
