LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell women's lacrosse team goes in search of its first Patriot League win of the season and looks to stay alive in the playoff chase when it visits Lafayette on Saturday at 1 p.m. While the Bison come in with a record of 3-8 overall and 0-3 in the league, the Leopards are 7-5, 0-2.
Behind 11 goals from Patriot League Rookie of the Week Arriana Sajjad, the Bison went 1-1 last week. They rallied from a 9-0 deficit to defeat Liberty 16-15 in overtime before falling to American 22-9 in a Patriot League contest.
Sajjad, who had six goals, two assists and seven draw controls in the win over Liberty, now leads the team in goals (25) and points (30). Fellow freshman Emily Kookogey is right behind with 28 points on 23 goals and five assists, while Katelyn Miller (21-6-27) and Madison Hurwitz (16-9-25) have also topped the 20-point plateau on the season.
Miller also leads the team in ground balls (24), draw controls (35) and caused turnovers (16), while Adrienne Wendling (34) and Sajjad (33) rank just behind in draw controls.
The Bison are averaging 10.6 goals per game on the season but are allowing 16.5.
While the Bison have been idle since last Staurday, Lafayette is coming off a 17-14 home victory over San Diego State on Wednesday. Ana White, who leads the nation with 76 draw controls, had four goals and three assists in the win over the Aztecs. White has 24 goals and a team-high 17 assists on the season.
Lafayette's top goal-producer is Addie Godfrey with 40, the most in the Patriot League. Godfrey also has four assists for a team-high 44 points.
The Leopards are the third-highest scoring team in the Patriot League at 12.7 goals per game. They allow 11.5 per game, also third-best in the league.
When these two teams met last season in Lewisburg, the Leopards jumped out to an 8-0 lead before the Bison rallied late, but Lafayette held on for a 13-11 win. Hurwitz recorded a hat trick in that game for Bucknell, while White led Lafayette with four goals.
Lafayette leads the all-time series 28-5, but the Bison have won five of the last eight meetings after the Leopards claimed the first 25 in a row.
This is the first of four straight games on the road for the Bison, who will also visit Holy Cross, St. Bonaventure and Binghamton before returning home to face Colgate on Apr. 21.
