LEWISBURG, Pa. - There is no rest for the weary as the Bucknell women's tennis team (2-9) has three matches in five days after returning from its Spring Break week where it played six opponents in five days. Bucknell will play Mount St. Mary's Tuesday in Emmitsburg, Md., at 3 p.m., and host Saint Francis (Pa.) on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Navy at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Bucknell Tennis Courts.
The Bison will start off the week Tuesday facing Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Md. The Mount is 4-3 during its spring season. The team's most recent win was a 6-1 victory over Saint Francis last Saturday.
Last year when Bucknell met The Mount, the Bison came away with a 6-1 victory. Returning players Dumitrita Iepuras, Courtney Casey and Elena Vidrascu each won their singles matches.
Bucknell will have a short turnaround from Tuesday's match versus Mount St. Mary's as it takes on Saint Francis at home on Wednesday at 3 p.m. The matchup against the Red Flash was originally scheduled to be played in Loretto, Pa., Feb. 12 but was postponed twice and will now be played on Bucknell's courts.
The Red Flash enters the competition with a 3-11 record and a two match losing streak. During the streak Saint Francis lost 7-0 to James Madison and 6-1 to Mount St. Mary's. Bucknell holds the lead in the all-time series against Saint Francis, 11-0.
In the final match of the week the Bison will host Navy at 11 a.m. on Saturday in its first Patriot League conference event.
Last year when the two teams played, Navy defeated Bucknell 6-1 during the regular season and 4-2 at the Patriot League Tournament. The two teams have battled each other four times since Navy tennis became a varsity sport in 2010, with the series being tied at two apiece.
Casey needs one win to move into a tie for No. 25 on Bucknell's all-time victories. Her current record is 58-66, which ranks her at No. 26.
After this week's action the Bison will take on the Villanova Wildcats in Villanova, Pa., March 28 at 1 p.m.
