LEWISBURG, Pa. - Capping off an impressive week in which he was named the Patriot League Track Athlete of the Meet, Bucknell men's track and field's Justin Hicks (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School) was named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week. The junior won both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes and broke three records to help the Bucknell men to their first indoor league title since 1993.
Hicks has now been named the Bison Athlete of the Week twice in his career. He also received the honor last spring after helping Bucknell defend its outdoor conference title and setting his first school record as a part of the 4x100 relay. He was also the gold medal winner in the 100 meters and 4x400.
Hicks could not have asked for a better start to his championship meet last weekend. He set the Bucknell program record in the semifinals of the 60 meters with a time of 6.84 seconds. His finals time of 6.88 was good enough to become the first Bison in history to earn the 60-meter title at the Patriot League Championships.
In the 200 meters, Hicks again ran a personal best in the prelims. He later topped his 21.95 with a time of 21.88 in the finals. In addition to his second victory of the championships, his time earned him a piece of the Patriot League record, the Gerhard Fieldhouse record outright and the No. 2 spot on the Bucknell top-10 list.
After capping off his performance by anchoring the 4x400 to a fourth-place finish, Hicks was named the Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet. He was also named the Rookie of the Meet in 2010, making him the only athlete in league history to earn both honors. Hicks is the first Bison to earn top track honors since Matthew Forys in 2007.
Thanks in part to Hicks' outstanding performance, Bucknell won the Patriot League indoor title for the first time in 19 years. It is also just the fourth team trophy in program history. On Sunday, the Bison finished with 185 points, besting defending champion Navy by a slim 8.75 points.
Hicks and several of his teammates will return to action March 3-4 when they compete at the IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass.
