LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second time this season, Bucknell volleyball's Karen Campbell (Chesapeake, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) was named the Molten Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday. Campbell led the team in attack percentage and was second among Bison in kills as the team closed out its schedule with a pair of split decisions against Holy Cross and Army.
After both matches, Campbell's stat sheet had 15 kills coming on a .370 attack percentage. Eight of those kills came in the loss to Army and was the highest among Bison as was her .462 hitting mark. The freshman totaled seven kills the previous night as Bucknell swept Holy Cross in straight sets.
Campbell's efforts also showed up defensively as she finished the week with three total blocks. Against the Crusaders, she hit the century mark, making her the first Bison to hit 100 blocks in a single season since Jennie Smith totaled 106 in 2006. Senior teammate Kebah Edoho (Odenton, Md./Arundel) also reached 100 in the same match. Together they make up the first Bucknell duo to reach 100 blocks in the same season since 1995.
Monday's honor is the second of the season for Campbell as she was also voted the league's Rookie of the Week on Sept. 4 after a successful run at the Robert Morris/Duquesne Invitational. Campbell is the first Bison to earn more than one Patriot League Rookie of the Week award in a single season since Jenna Henderson was honored three times in 2004. Henderson was also the last Bucknell volleyball player to earn any weekly league award more than once in a single campaign, being named the Player of the Week twice in 2006.
Bucknell will complete its 2012 season this weekend on the road. The Bison travel to Annapolis, Md., to take on Navy at 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 4 p.m. matchup with American in Washington, D.C., on Saturday.
