Bucknell Football Falls by 10-3 Score at Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. -Georgetown backup quarterback Stephen Skon completed 19 of 29 passes for 231 yards in a reserve role and Jo'el Kimpela rushed 19 times for 98 yards to lead Georgetown to a 10-3 victory over Bucknell in football Saturday afternoon at unseasonably warm Multi-Sport Field. The Hoyas totaled 356 yards of total offense, while the Bison were held to a season-low 168 yards.
Bucknell (2-8, 0-5 Patriot League) was trying to win its second consecutive game, but its only points were a second-half 38-yard field goal by Sean Cobelli, his 11th of the year.
Georgetown (5-5, 2-2 PL) scored all 10 of its points in the first half on a 20-yard field goal by Matt MacZura and a 28-yard pass from Skon to Keven Macari.
Despite the struggles on the offensive end, Bucknell did have its chances late in the contest. The Bison were down 10-0 and Georgetown was driving, but Matthew Steinbeck'ssixth interception of the season and his 39-yard return set up a Brandon Wesley-to-Josh Brake touchdown with nine minutes left in the fourth. However, the touchdown was called back due to a holding penalty and a couple plays later Cobelli connected on his field goal.
Bucknell's defense forced a Georgetown punt and the Bison offense took over with around four minutes to play. A Wesley-to-Brake pass on fourth down near midfield was ruled out of bounds and the Hoyas took possession needing only one first down to clinch the game.
Bucknell managed just 48 yards in the first half and tried to get things going early in the second half, but was unsuccessful. Tyler Smithfound Brake on a 39-yard halfback option pass to move the Bison to the 10-yard line. Three plays later Cobelli was wide left on a 23-yard field goal.
On its next offensive possession, Bucknell tried a direct snap to FB Travis Friendon a punt formation. Friend gained seven yards, but was stopped short of the first down marker.
Bucknell was 0-for-11 on third downs and 0-for-2 on fourth downs, while Georgetown was 6-for-16 on third downs.
Wesley finished the game 8-for-13 for 56 yards, while Smith paced the Bison in rushing with 37 yards on 14 carries.
Evan Byers led the Bucknell defense with a career high-tying 12 tackles, while Tracey Smith, Patrick Joyce and Samuel Oyekoyaeach posted a sack.
"We struggled a bit," commented Bucknell third-year head coach Joe Susan. "We had a first-and-10 at the 11 and we have to make that. We had the touchdown called back. We can't afford those mistakes. As a coaching staff, we are going to continue to teach and demand of our players and it's up to them to perform."
Bucknell will wrap up its 2012 season next Saturday, Nov. 17, against Bryant. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
