LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's tennis will make its last stand of the fall tournament this season when it travels to Bethlehem, Pa., for the Lehigh Invitational Oct. 12-14. Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) will attempt to become the second Bison to hit 20 total wins at the three-day tournament, set to play out at the Lewis Tennis Center and Ulrich Varsity Courts.
Vidrascu enters the weekend ranked second on the team in combined wins with a record of 19-7. She trails only Maria Cioffi (Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport), who has already claimed a 20-6 record. The first Bucknellian to 10 singles wins as well, Cioffi looks to be joined in the distinction soon by Vidrascu with her 9-4 mark and Stephanie Pino (Berwyn, Pa./The Episcopal Academy), who has a 7-4 record in singles.
Not surprisingly, that trio makes up the most successful group in combined victories and winning percentage this fall. Cioffi stands at .769, followed by Vidrascu at .731 and Pino at .609. Jen Bush (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Kristen Bishof (Great Falls, Va./Madeira School) also have .500 records this fall at 11-11 and 7-7, respectively.
Bucknell's list of its five-winningest players comes from up and down its roster with Vidrascu being a junior, Bush and Bishof in their sophomore years and Cioffi and Pino being freshmen. As a class, only the sophomores are below .500, but the cohort has a team-high 49 combined victories.
In their most recent competition, Cioffi and Vidrascu teamed up for another successful run in doubles, this time at the Saint Joseph's Invitational. The duo advanced to the third round, before an 8-3 loss to Delaware ended their five-match winning streak. Cioffi and Vidrascu's run of five straight doubles victories is tied for the longest this season. Only Cioffi has matched that as she strung together five consecutive singles wins in mid-September.
With Lehigh capping off its fall tournament schedule, Bucknell will have plenty of time to prepare for dual play. The Bison next hit the court on Feb. 2 when they host Saint Francis (Pa.) at the West Branch Tennis Club in Williamsport, Pa.
