LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior center Mike Muscala (Roseville, Minn./Roseville) had two big games and hit a major milestone last week, and as a result he has been named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week for the third time in his career. Muscala totaled 42 points and 21 rebounds in contests against Loyola (Md.) and Cornell, and in the Loyola game he recorded his 1,000th career point.
Muscala logged 24 points and eight rebounds in a 72-67 loss to the Greyhounds. His second-half free throw made him the 34th member of Bucknell's 1,000-point club. He is also the 17th Bison with 1,000 points and 500 rebounds, and he is just the third player in program history - and just the fourth in Patriot League history - with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 150 blocked shots.
Against Cornell, Muscala scored all of his 18 points in the second half, leading Bucknell to a come-from-behind 63-60 victory over the Big Red. He played a career-high 37 minutes in that game and did not commit a turnover.
For the season, Muscala now leads the team in scoring at 14.6 points per game, and he leads the Patriot League in rebounding at 9.3 per contest. He was named the Patriot League Player of the Week last week after two big games against No. 1 Syracuse and Boston University, and this week he was named to the Patriot League Honor Roll.
Bucknell went on to defeat Dartmouth 67-59 on Tuesday night to improve to 10-6 on the season - thanks in part to Muscala's 18 points and eight rebounds - and now the Bison will open up Patriot League play on Saturday at Army at 4 p.m.
