Bison Women's Tennis Wraps Up Bucknell Invite with Consolation Round Wins

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's tennis wrapped up play with several matches in the consolation round, getting wins from Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) and Kristen Bishof (Great Falls, Va./Madeira School) at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Sunday morning. At the conclusion of the Bucknell Invitational, freshmen Alyssa McAndrew (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) and Jen Bush (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) led the Bison with six wins apiece.
Casey finished her day with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Shivani Patel of Saint Francis (Pa.) to win her section of the backdraw. After going 1-1 in doubles and 2-2 in singles for the weekend, the Bison senior now ranks among the top 25 in program history in both. Casey is 31-23 in her career in singles and 26-32 in doubles, tying for 25th all-time at Bucknell.
Claudia Silvers (Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford School) was also a straight-sets winner over teammate Bishof, 6-3, 6-3. Having a tougher time of it in her last match was Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland). Vidrascu fell 6-7, 6-4, (10-6) to Villanova's Mikelle Mancini.
In yesterday's doubles final, McAndrew and Bush took the Flight B title. By going 4-0 together in doubles, the rookies led the squad in combined victories. McAndrew finished at 6-1, while Bush was 6-2. Classmates Christie Schneider (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) and Bishof also totaled four wins each.
Bucknell will be back in action Sept. 23-25 at the Georgetown Invitational in Washington, D.C.
