LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Drew Fitzgerald (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa), a team captain on the track and field team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held in Terrace Room on Tuesday, May 3.
Fitzgerald won the Edward W. Pangburn Award, presented to senior athletes "for sportsmanship, fellowship, and contribution to the University". Fitzgerald shared the award with Katie Jurenovich of the golf team, who was the female selection.
A two-year captain elected by your teammates, Fitzgerald became known for his commitment to his fellow Bison as well as his success in the field events. The native of Ballston Spa, N.Y., has scored nearly 70 points in Patriot League Championship meets throughout his career, competing in the high jump, pole vault and long jump. As a sophomore, he was named the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Meet at the league's indoor championships after winning the high jump and finishing second in the pole vault. He claimed his second career league title in the outdoor pole vault later that year.
Fitzgerald, who helped Bucknell to its first Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championship for the first time since 1991 last spring, holds several program top-10 marks. In addition to holding the record in the outdoor high jump, he is also second all-time at Bucknell in the indoor high jump, third in the heptathlon, fourth in the outdoor pole vault and ninth in the indoor pole vault.
A four-time All-Patriot League selection and a member of the Bucknell Dean's List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Fitzgerald will graduate with a degree in management.
