LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell starting pitchers Dylan Seeley, Jack Boehm and Ryan Ebner (Sinking Spring, Pa./The Hill School) each pitched at least two outs into the seventh inning and yielded two or fewer earned runs this past weekend as the Bison baseball team posted three wins in a four-game series against Longwood. While the three veterans all had solid outings, Ebner's eight shutout innings were perhaps the most impressive as he was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week for the second straight Monday.
Bucknell (11-11) has claimed the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week award three straight weeks and four times overall this year.
Ebner, who extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 21.1, permitted just one Longwood hit in the first five innings of Saturday's game two as the Bison built an 8-0 lead en route to an 11-2 victory. In five of his eight innings, Ebner retired the side in order and he allowed just two runners to reach third base. He finished his time on the mound allowing three hits and striking out four before exiting.
A tall left-hander, Ebner has allowed just one earned run and given up 10 hits, only one of which went for extra bases, over his last three starts (22.0 IP). Over that same span he has struck out 14.
Bucknell has posted a 4-1 record in Ebner's five starts this season, and he owns a team-best 3-1 mark. In fact, he has earned the win in six of the Bison's last 14 victories dating back to last year's postseason.
Overall this year, Ebner, a junior, has a 5.08 ERA in 28.1 innings. He has struck out 20 and limited opponents to a .228 batting average. Over his last four outings (26.0 IP), opponents are hitting just .155 and his ERA stands at 1.38.
Bucknell's pitching has remained strong of late. The Bison staff has an impressive 2.63 ERA since the conclusion of the season-opening four-game series at James Madison. Bucknell's team ERA this past weekend against the Lancers was 2.81.
The Bison will be back in action at Le Moyne on Tuesday. The two teams will square off in a pair of seven-inning games at Dick Rockwell Field. A live video broadcast will be available through the Le Moyne website (www.lemoynedolphins.tv).
