Bucknell Volleyball's Ellenberger Named to Capital One Academic All-District First Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - On the eve of the final weekend of play Bucknell volleyball's Anne Ellenberger (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon Honors) was named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District II First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday. Ellenberger, who leads the Patriot League in blocks this fall, has a 3.62 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in chemical engineering. Bucknell has now had at least one Academic All-District selection every year since 2000.
Ellenberger, who is now eligible for Academic All-America honors, has been enjoying the best season of her career in 2011. Currently the Patriot League leader in block with 1.30 per set, the senior has also set personal single-season highs in kills (87), aces (9), digs (20) and blocks (86). She has totaled 24 block solos so far after entering her final campaign with just eight for her career.
A four-time member of the Bucknell Dean's List and a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Ellenberger has been very involved in the University's engineering department. She has served as a research assistant, working on a mircofluids project studying the diffusion of dye molecules through a hydrogel. She has also been a department tour guide, teacher aid and grader for the Chemical Engineering Principles course, and assistant coordinator and counselor for the Bucknell Engineering Camp. Ellenberger's other work experience has included participation in a shadowing program with an engineering firm where she followed a partner through a work day at a sewage treatment plant.
In the community, Ellenberger has been active with several of Bucknell volleyball's volunteer activities. She is also a Girl Scouts USA Lifetime Member and a Brownie Troop assistant in Lewisburg.
Ellenberger earns Bucknell volleyball's 22nd Academic All-District accolade and the second straight to claim first team honors. Recent graduate Rachel Rodriguez was also a first team honoree last fall.
The Patriot League was also represented on the Academic All-District Team by American's Rebecca Heath, also in District II.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, have a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key reserve on his/her team.
Bucknell will wrap up its season this weekend taking on Holy Cross and Army on the road. The Bison vs. Crusaders showdown is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by the matchup with the Black Knights at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Bucknell is currently 6-15 overall and 3-9 in the Patriot League.
