LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's tennis was forced indoors because of rain, but the doubles tandem of Jen Bush (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Alyssa McAndrew (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) still advanced to the championship match at the Bison Quad on Saturday. Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School (Pa.)) and Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) were also in action but fell short in their semifinal singles matches.
Bush and McAndrew started the day with an 8-6 win over Youngstown State's Carolyn Jesko and Gimena Puppo in the semis. The Penguins had the final word, however, as Marta Burak and Lauren Hankle kept the Bison duo from its second doubles title of the spring, 8-3.
With matches moved inside, singles action was limited to prosets. Iepuras fell 8-3 to Burak in her semifinal, while Vidrascu came up short 8-4 against Niagara's Hilary Hansen. Burak ultimately ended up with the Flight A title.
Saturday's four matches closes the books on the Bison women's squad's fall season. Bucknell will be back in action in January for a dual match at Penn State.
