Bucknell Wrestling Dropped by No. 13 Rutgers, 33-3

LEWISBURG, Pa. - A victory by Jay Hahn at 197 pounds prevented a Rutgers shutout as the Bucknell wrestling team lost to the 13th-ranked Scarlet Knights, 33-3, Friday evening at the Louis Brown Athletic Center. Rutgers won nine of the 10 bouts, including three for bonus points.
The most anticipated matchup of the night came at 149 pounds as Bucknell's (3-7, 0-3 EIWA) No. 4 Kevin LeValley squared off against No. 5 Mario Mason. The competitive bout went to overtime tied 1-1 as both grapplers recorded an escape during regulation. Mason then scored a takedown early in the first overtime period, handing LeValley his first loss of the year against 18 victories. Mason improved to 18-3.
Rutgers (13-1, 5-0 EIWA) had five ranked wrestlers in its lineup, compared to just LeValley for the Bison. Four of the five ranked grapplers won by decision, although none of that quartet won by more than two points as LeValley, Brantley Hooks (157), Corey Lear (165) and David Thompson (174) kept their bouts close. Those four bouts were decided by just six points.
Hahn took the mat at 197 pounds with the Bison trailing 28-0 and earned a 10-4 decision over Mike Wagner. He improved to 18-6 on the year, tying LeValley for the team lead in wins.
Bucknell will be back in action Saturday evening when it faces Maryland at Lower Dauphin High School in Hummelstown, Pa. Start time is 7 p.m.
