PRINCETON, N.J. - Laura Rycek (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) placed sixth in the javelin, recording All-East honors, and the men's 4x400 relay posted one of the top times in Bison history as Bucknell track and field continued competition at the ECAC and IC4A Championships at Princeton on Saturday. Robert Arent (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) also had a strong outing in the 400 hurdles, qualifying for Sunday's final in the event.
Rycek threw 135 feet, 4 inches in the javelin to earn her first career All-East accolade. She also becomes the first Bison woman to earn the distinction this spring and claimed Bucknell's first three points in the 2010 championships. Rycek was joined in the event by freshman Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison), who placed 11th with a throw of 125-11.
Also claiming a top-10 finish was Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) in the hammer throw. The senior took 10th with a mark of 174-1. She will compete again tomorrow in the shot put.
The men's 4x400 relay placed 21st overall, crossing the line in 3 minutes, 15.73 seconds. That mark gives the unit made up of Jordan Donaldson (Saxton, Pa./Tussey Mountain), John Picardo (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton Central), Justin Hicks (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School) and Clement Gyan (Yonkers, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln) the eighth-fastest time in Bucknell history.
Arent just missed out on a top-10 time in the 400 hurdles as did Dan Mularz (Englishtown, N.J./Freehold Township). Arent was eighth in 52.31 seconds, which is a mere three-hundredths of a second shy of his personal-best time that ranks third in program history. With the finish, the sophomore advances to the finals and will race at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Mularz finished 21st with a time of 53.95 seconds. That puts him less than one second off his own personal best.
Also in action for the men's team were the 4x100 relay, Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) in the 110 hurdles, Leonard Joseph (Whitesboro, N.Y./Clinton) in the discus and Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) in the long jump. Yehl placed eighth with a time of 14.43 seconds in the prelims to give Bucknell one of its highest individual finishes on the day. Anthony was 20th in the long jump (22-6 ½), while Joseph was 20th in the discus (141-8).
The 4x100 relay, which consisted of Yehl, Hicks, Thomas McGarrigle (Malvern, Pa./Malvern Prep) and Isaih Bell (Stone Mountain, Ga./Clarkston), was 26th in the prelims with a time of 42.86
Rounding out the Saturday schedule for the Bison women were Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazelton) in the long jump and the 4x800 relay. Mantush was 16th with a distance of 16-7, while the relay squad of Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands), Caroline Tolli (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport), Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) and Amanda Steinke (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) was 17th in 9:09.5.
