Musante, Arent Set School Records as Bucknell Track & Field Wraps Up ECAC, IC4A Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and Robert Arent (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) each set school records, and Ted Heitzman (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) and Steven Pierce (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) both earned All-IC4A honors in the javelin as Bucknell track and field completed its run at the IC4A and ECAC Championships at Princeton on Sunday afternoon. At the close of competition, six Bison had earned All-East and All-IC4A recognition, and five had inked their names in the Bucknell record books.
Musante took over as the Bucknell shot put record holder with a throw of 46 feet, 10 ¼ inches. The mark put her in sixth place at the meet, giving the senior her first career All-East honor at the outdoor championships. She and Laura Rycek (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area), who placed sixth in the javelin on Saturday, were the lone Bison women to be named All-East at the 2010 championships.
Musante now holds the program's top mark in both the indoor and outdoor shot put. The thrower took over as the indoor record holder at the Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships, posting a mark of 47-10 ¾.
Arent also made his mark in the record books, setting the program's best mark in the 400 hurdles. Arent finished fourth overall at the meet with a time of 51.59 seconds. That betters former teammate Kevin MacLeod's time by nearly three-tenths of a second. The finish also earns Arent All-IC4A honors for the first time in his career.
Joining Arent among the award winners were Heitzman and Pierce, who took fourth and fifth, respectively in the javelin. Heitzman posted a mark of 210-11, while Pierce was close behind with 208-2.
Along with Andrew Huebner's (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) fourth-place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase on Friday night, four individuals were named All-IC4A for the first time since 2000. The only time the Bucknell men's squad placed more student-athletes on the honor list came when three individual and the 4x100 relay scored at the 2001 IC4A Championships.
Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) just missed earning All-IC4A honors in the triple jump. The senior finished 12th with a jump of 48-4 ½. Tom Barr (Ambler, Pa./LaSalle College HS), Jonathan Lockhart (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) and Quinten Marcott (Wayland, Mich./Wayland) were also in action in the shot put. Only Barr was able to hit the 50-foot mark, placing 22nd overall. Lockhart and Marcott took 26th and 28th, respectively.
On the women's side, Casey Krause (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) and Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) both placed 22nd in their respective events. Krause finished with a triple jump mark of 37-0 ¼, while Fulmer crossed the line in the 3000 meters in a time of 10:29.08.
Bucknell will now await its fate for the NCAA Championships. The top 48 declared athletes in each event in the east region will qualify for the preliminary round in Greensboro, N.C., May 28-29.
