LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell softball announced its latest recruiting class on Friday, featuring Caryn Connors, Courtney Conover, Brooke Forgetta, Sophia Geraci, Mallory Lyons and Kasey Segiel. The six newest Bison, which are set to begin their Bucknell careers in 2010-11, hail from five different states, are members of the National Honor Society and have combined for more than a dozen selections to all-conference or all-area teams.
"Overall we are extremely excited about our incoming class. We have filled the gaps that will be left to graduation," said head coach Heather Rakosik, who is in her sixth season at the helm of the Bison. "This class is extremely important due to the fact that we are graduating a senior class that has helped take the program to the next level. I have no doubt that Sophia, Courtney, Mallory, Caryn, Brooke and Kasey will step right in and fill their shoes carrying on their legacy of hard work and quality play."
Following is an alphabetical list of the six Bucknell softball recruits that comprise the Class of 2014:
Caryn Connors (INF/OF) - Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township
Courtney Conover (P/RF/1B) - Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township
Brooke Forgetta (OF) - Houston, Texas/Bellaire
Sophia Geraci (1B/3B) - East Moriches, N.Y./Westhampton Beach
Mallory Lyons (3B/SS) - Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area
Kasey Segiel (3B/SS) - Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional

Rakosik on Connors: "Caryn is an all-around athlete with very strong defensive skills. She definitely has the competitive nature to be successful at the next level."
Courtney Conover (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) - Pitcher/Right Field/First Base ... named All-Monmouth County in 2008 and 2009 ... also selected All-Shore Third Team and All-Division in 2009 ... Spartan Scholar ... member of National Honor Society ... plays travel softball for Jersey Intensity Gold.
Rakosik on Conover: "Courtney will be a great fit as a Bison. Her versatility, competitiveness, skill, and personality will fit right into our program. We are thrilled to bring in a player that has the ability to contribute on the mound, at the plate, as well as at first base and the outfield."
Brooke Forgetta (Houston, Texas/Bellaire) - Outfield ... four-year varsity starter at Bellaire ... member of team that qualified for Regional Semifinals in 2008 and 2009 ... selected First Team All-District in 2009 and Second Team All-District in 2008 ... also named Second Team All-Greater Houston in 2009 ... member of National Honor Society ... AP Scholar ... National Merit Commended ... born in Boston, Mass. ... plays travel softball with Texas Peppers Gold.
Rakosik on Forgetta: "We are excited to be bringing in another Texas player as we lose senior Shelly McCormack. Brooke has had the advantage to play year round and it shows. She is the type of kid who can handle anything and come out on top. She has a great energy on the field and in the dugout."
Sophia Geraci (East Moriches, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) - First Base/Third Base ... four-year starter at first base ... earned Suffolk County Rookie of the Year and Westhampton Beach Coach's Award as a freshman ... named All-League freshman through junior years ... also named All-Division as a sophomore and junior and All-County as a junior ... named Westhampton Beach High School's Best Female Athlete in 2010 ... two-year softball team captain ... also played varsity volleyball as a freshman and sophomore ... earned Advanced Math and Business Student awards in 2008 ... four-year member of Principal's Honor Roll ... member of National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society and Science Honor Society ... plays travel softball for Long Island Express.

Rakosik on Lyons: "Mallory is a very strong left side infielder with a strong arm. She is the type of hard-working player that will fit very well in our system."
Kasey Segiel (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) - Third Base/Shortstop ... earned four letters in softball and three in basketball ... 2009 Tribune Review All-Star ... member of National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society ... achieved Highest Honors with Distinction ... plays travel softball with Pittsburgh Spirit.
Rakosik on Segiel: "As a person and as an athlete Kasey fits the bill when it comes to fitting into our program. Her work ethic is unmatched, she will only add to our strong team dynamic, and her ability to make things happen on offense makes her a consistent threat day in and day out."
